MINE EYES HAVE SEEN (Dr. Amelia Boynton)

Limited edition, signed and numbered giclee on paper. 24" x 26". Edition of 150. $550 each.

Dr. Amelia Platts Boynton died recently at 104 years of age.  She was known as the "Mother of Voting Rights".  At age 9, in the 1920's, she and her mother rode around Alabama in a buggy trying to get women to vote.  Her life as a civil rights and voting rights activist spanned 90 years--before and after Dr. King, Medgar, Malcolm, Abernathy, Lowery--ALL of them.  It was the work of Amelia, Dr. C.T. Vivian, and Bernard Lafayette that caused the first attempt at a march over the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma.  Amelia was the reason Dr. King went to Selma.  The photo of her beaten and gassed and left for dead on the Edmund Pettus Bridge was broadcast around the world and one of the reasons President Johnson sent troops to Alabama.   Dr. Boynton was invited to the White House when Lyndon Johnson signed the voting rights act.

This piece is a timeline of her life. I met her when my wife was working as her PR representative.  Dr. Boynton signed the original artwork so her signature appears on all of the prints.

If you love history, and appreciate the civil rights movement and want to honor those who came before, who made it possible for us to vote, this piece is for you.
